Keysight/Agilent 3441xA Logger/DMM driver released

Wecome to my DMM-Driver-Release-Day.

Last but not least a third driver release today for the Keysight/Agilent 3441xA logger/DMM. The 34410A and 34411A were released in 2005 as the successors for the venerable 34401A with upgraded computer power, interfaces and displays. Agilent however continued to offer the 34401A as a lower priced option and it remained the much more popular choice until all of them were discontinued at the end of 2016 for their new line of 3446xA and 3447xA DMM.

The 34411A is essentially an even faster version of the 34410A so you shouldn’t see a difference in use despite faster readout times.

This driver uses a trick to offer the choice of a temperature unit: a placeholder unit “deg” is introduced during initialization and replaced with either Celsius, Fahrenheit or Kelvin after the choice has been made in the GUI and the instrument configured accordingly.

Similar to the 34401A, this instrument will output more digits via GPIB than shown on the display. Surprisingly, it seems to output its full ADC resolution, a staggering 9.5 digit. What I saw during use suggest than at least my sample of the 34410A seems to be precise down to 7.5 digits, similar to my 34401A, so especially when used with averaging, a true benefit.

Oh yeah, did I mention it allows to output text on its display via SCPI?

Best wishes,
Christian
